Letter from Principal Elder regarding STAAR English I EOC Test on Tuesday, 4/6

Dear FHS Family,

As many of you know, the Texas Education Agency’s vendor for administering the STAAR EOC test, ETS, suffered a significant disruption in their service. Therefore, The Texas Education Agency advised all attempts at online testing be halted for today. The service interruption significantly impacted our English I STAAR EOC exam, and as a result, our students were not tested. Currently, we are waiting for additional guidance from TEA and other entities about scheduling a retest opportunity. At this point, no retest of freshman students and students retesting for the English I STAAR EOC has been determined. Once those decisions are made, based on available guidance and information, we will communicate with you.

Like most schools around the state, we are extremely disappointed that this event occurred. Our teachers and students have spent significant time and energy trying to prepare for what should have been a successful testing day. I want to thank our FHS teachers, families, and students for working so hard to prepare for this opportunity and I ask, only, that we continue to work together to make the undetermined retest day just as successful in terms of attendance and preparedness.

Currently, all plans related to the administration of the English II STAAR EOC test scheduled for this Thursday remain in place. It is my sincere hope that we continue the “Stampede Toward Excellence.”

Regards,

Steve Elder
