FLORENCE TX – October 15, 2018 – Florence High School hosted Congressman Carter at their campus on Monday, October 15th.  Florence showcased several programs that make their school a standout in Central Texas, followed by an informative presentation from Congressman Carter to the senior class on government service.

“My initial contact with Congressman Carter’s office was an attempt to immerse the senior students taking government in a real life discussion about the workings of our Congress,” stated Van Calvin, government teacher. “These seniors took this opportunity seriously and developed a set of questions that they posed to the Congressman.”

Congressman Carter arrived at Florence High School at noon, just in time to visit juniors and seniors in the cafeteria. He then received a tour of the meat processing lab and market (one of two operating high school meat labs in the state of Texas) and viewed an exciting, interactive presentation from the robotics team. To wrap up his visit, Congressman Carter conducted a presentation for the entire senior class.

“It is rare that a small community like Florence has the opportunity to welcome a national-level government official like Congressman John Carter,” stated Principal Steve Elder. “We believe that such opportunities allow small districts such as ours to highlight the programs and activities that make us unique. Congressman Carter’s visit allowed us to display Florence High School’s national championship-level career and technical education programs, while sharing the inner-workings of government service with our students.”
