FISD Announces New High School Principal

At a Special Called Meeting of the Board of Trustees held on May 8th, the Board unanimously voted to employ Dr. Russell Porterfield as the Florence High School Principal beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. 

Dr. Porterfield holds a Masters of Education from Texas A&M University, as well as a Doctorate of Education from Mary Hardin-Baylor UniversityHe is a Central Texas native, a graduate of Florence High School and a resident of Florence.  He grew up working in the construction industry with his dad and believes there is dignity and value in all work.

Dr. Porterfield has most recently served as the principal of the Killeen ISD Career Center where he led a staff of approximately 100 people and served just under 1700 students.  Prior to that, he served as the Director of Career and College Readiness for Copperas Cove ISD and oversaw the CTE programs for the district along with advance academics.  He has also served as an associate high school principal and a high school assistant principal.

According to Superintendent Rick Kirkpatrick, “Florence ISD brought a Buffalo home and I am excited about his leadership and the knowledge he possesses that he will use to propel Florence High School into the future”.

Dr. Porterfield says, “I am excited to again be a part of Florence High School and humbled by the opportunity to serve as principal at my alma mater.  I look forward to meeting all members of the Florence High School community and supporting efforts to prepare students for their goals after high school”.
