Welcome to Florence High School!

Dear Florence High School Parents and Students,

On behalf of our faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2025 – 2026 school year.  At Florence High School, we strive to prepare students for life after high school.  We provide students with an excellent education including the opportunity to earn 42 hours of dual credit, take Advanced Placement classes and take classes that prepare them for the real world, like financial math.  Students also have the opportunity to complete 9 different programs of study with industry-based certifications preparing students for the workforce and postsecondary training.

As a graduate of Florence High School, I am excited to have the opportunity to partner with parents and the community to support and serve the students at FHS.  Together we can help our students be successful!

I invite you to read our weekly campus newsletter, visit our campus, and see all of the great things that are happening at FHS.  I look forward to another great year.  If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know.

Small Town Feel, Big Opportunities

Insights from our community on what sets Florence apart from the rest.

“What I love about Florence is that small town feeling where you get to be in classes with all of your friends and it’s the same group of people that you move throughout high school with, so you can really develop those close relationships. FHS has offered everything I would need to get to where I am now. AP classes, dual credit class options, FFA activities – they offer the necessary steps for anyone who wants to take advantage of these opportunities.”

- Luke Nichols, 2025 Valedictorian & National Merit Scholar Finalist

“We’re a school that is really giving our kids a chance to get out and be in the community and be something after high school. We’re giving students certifications in so many areas in CTE that our students can go to work and know what they’re doing.”

- Misty Overfelt, Health Science/EMT Teacher

“One of the things I love about Florence is the small community. I know every kid in the school – I know what’s going on in their lives, and they know each other. There is a family atmosphere – a genuine concern for each other – that is just special about this place.”

- Dr. Russell Porterfield, FHS Principal
